​​​Medical Insurance 

Dr. Mu  does not participate with any insurance plans and cannot bill them directly.  If you have medical insurance, you may file claims for reimbursement for an out-of-network service with your insurance company. Please call your insurance company to determine your benefits and to obtain a pre-authorization. Ask your insurance company if a "Treatment Plan" needs to be submitted in order for you to be reimbursed.  If that is the case, Dr. Mu will complete Treatment Plans that can be submitted to your insurer.  

Dr. Mu will be happy to assist you by supplying you with an invoice at the time of each service. This invoice will contain the pertinent information required by your insurance carrier (diagnosis code, treatment code, date of service, etc.) for reimbursement.

Dr. Mu has opted-out of Medicare; therefore, those individuals with Medicare who wish to see him must sign an agreement that states that they will not submit claims to Medicare. 

Patient appointments are scheduled as 90-120 minute intake appointments, 55 minute psychotherapy sessions or 25 minute medication management sessions. Please contact Dr. Mu regarding specific rates. 

All fees are due at the time of service and payable by cash, check, electronic payment via Venmo or credit/debit. Some patients also use their Health Savings Account (HSA) card for payment.  All major credit cards are accepted. There is no additional fee for using credit/debit as payment.​

All clinic visits are scheduled by appointment only. The initial evaluation session lasts between 90 to 120 minutes and is an opportunity for Dr. Mu to review your history and discuss the relevant issues for which you are seeking care. Prior to this appointment it is advised that you download and complete the new patient information form and the new patient intake questionaire found under the resources tab.  In addition there are 3 documents relating to office policy, release of information and consent for treatment. Please download and review these documents. Completed documents can be faxed or mailed to the office or you may choose to bring it with you  to the first appointment.​ ​ An optimal evaluation includes the input of a trusted informant, such as a parent, spouse, other family member or close friend; the presence of one such informant is encouraged, but is not required. 

Followup appointments are scheduled as either 25 minute or 55 minute sessions.  

For issues arising between office appointments, Dr. Mu is available by phone for brief phone sessions.  There is no additional charge for such sessions. All attempts will be made to return your calls promptly. If there is an emergent issue for which you feel your safety is at risk, please call 911 or proceed to the nearest emergency room.

Each appointment time is reserved exclusively for a specific patient. If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, you are asked to give 24 hours' advanced notice. If you do not make the appointment and do not give the required notice, the full appointment fee will be charged.

Confidentiality and Privacy

The law protects the relationship between a patient and psychiatrist, and information cannot be disclosed without the patient's permission. This means that Dr. Mu will not share any of your information or discuss any aspect of your treatment with a third party without your expressed consent. As per Maryland law, there are several specific exceptions to this confidentiality.  They include instances where there is suspicion of child or elder abuse or if the patient intends to harm himself or others.  

As per HIPAA guidelines multiple safeguards are in place to protect your privacy. Patient information and treatment records are fully encrypted and stored locally. Your privacy is of paramount importance and all efforts are made to ensure that it remains secure.
